After Sitara and Alapana, Vamsi’s third film was Anveshana. While Sitara was being shot at the Kovalam Beach, Kamineni Prasad met Vamsi expressing his desire to produce a film directed by Vamsi. Chinna the owner of Hotel Apsara in Vizag was ready to co-produce this film. Vamsi had plans to make a thriller and started working on the story.

Work began on the film, Vamsi and music maestro Ilayaraja went to Madhurai to compose the music for the film. Vamsi had forgotten the script of the film in Araku. He hurriedly narrated whatever he remembered of the script to Ilayaraja. The music maestro on the other hand composed mellifluous music for the film and Vamsi was impressed by the music that he changed the script based on Ilayaraj’s tunes and the altered plot that he narrated to Ilayaraja. He titled the film Anveshana.

Anveshana a thriller and murder mystery had Bhanupriya in a prime role. She comes to a forest to record bird sounds. A lady who had come before Bhanupriya is killed. Sarath Babu who is forest officer explains that it is a tiger that killed the lady. One by one people start getting killed and Karthik an undercover cop is trying to unravel the mystery.

Yendamuri Veerendranath was asked to write the dialogues, and once he finished his work Vamsi was dissatisfied with it and he worked on it.  The film was shot aggressively in the Talakona forest, as it was dense the unit did not go deep into the forest. It was a wonderful work by Thota Tharani and the officer’s cottage was done to perfection. Due to budget constraints hand held camera was used.  The movie was shot with a budget of 15 lakhs and a schedule of 60 days.

Songs were penned by Veturi and were recorded at the Prasad Deluxe Theatre in Madras. Music equipments were used to mimic the sounds of nature.  Bhanupriya dubbed for her role for the first time in Anveshana.

The film went on to be a musical hit. It completed 100 days in 11 centres. Gollapudi Maruti Rao hailed the technicians who worked in this film. He said it is a regular mystery story but has a great director, editor, musician and camera man. Though thrillers are usually a one-time watch, Anveshana got a lot of repeat audience.

This film was dubbed in Tamil as Paadum Paravaigal.  Vamsi’s direction, Ilayaraja's music, MV Raghu's camerawork, Anil Malnad's editing and the cast made Anveshana a memorable movie.
