2020: A year of remakes!

There is a huge dearth of new ideas and stories in the Telugu film industry. Shortage of writers who can pen scripts suitable to the stars and their image is another issue. Precisely this is the reason why the Telugu film industry is now relying on movies made in other languages. Producers are buying remake rights paying hefty amounts.

A look at remakes that are under production this year…

Vakeel Saab
This is Pawan Kalyan’s comeback movie. It is based on Bollywood hit ‘Pink’ which was later remade in Tamil with Ajith as ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’. Scheduled for release shortly, ‘Vakeel Saab’ is being directed by Venu Sriram and produced by Dil Raju.

Red
Ram starrer ‘Red’ which was scheduled for April 9 release has been postponed indefinitely due to lockdown. The movie is based on Tamil thriller ‘Thadam’. Ram plays a dual role. Directed by Kishore Tirumala, the thriller has Nivetha Pethuraju, Amrutha Aiyer and Malavika Sharma as the heroines.

Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya
This Satyadev starrer has completed its shooting and is ready for release. After debuting with critically acclaimed ‘C/o Kancharapalem’, director Venkatesh Maha surprisingly has chosen a Malayalam movie ‘Maheshinte Pratikaram’ to remake it in Telugu.

Narappa
Venkatesh is known as Remake Raja. He had acted in more than 20 remake movies in his long career. His upcoming ‘Narappa’ is based on Dhanush starrer Tamil blockbuster ‘Asuran’. 

Kapatadhaari
Sumanth is working in a new film in the direction of Pradeep Krishnamoorthy. A remake of the popular Kannada film ‘Kavaludaari’, the movie has been titled in Telugu as ‘Kapatadhaari’.

Nithin – Andhadhun
Bollywood blockbuster ‘Andhadhun’ is getting remade in Telugu with Nithin essaying the lead role. Directed by Merlapaka Gandhi and produced by N Sudhakar Reddy and Nikitha Reddy, regular shooting begins shortly. It was recently launched.

Lucifer and Ayyappanum Koshiyum
The remake rights of Malayalam movies were ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ were bought by Ram Charan and producer Naga Vamsi respectively. Chiranjeevi might act in the remake of ‘Lucifer’. On the other hand, Balakrishna and Rana or Manchu Vishnu are being considered for ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ remake. 

Korean Remakes
After ‘Oh Baby’ which was based on a Korean movie became a huge hit, Suresh Babu’s production house is now planning two more such movies. Kajal Aggarwal will act in the remake of ‘Dancing Queen’, a 2012 Korean romantic drama. ‘Midnight Runners’, a Korean action movie is being remade in Telugu by director Sudheer Varma. Nivetha Thomas and Regina Cassandra are playing the lead roles.
