Maharshi Jukebox Review: Just ordinary album

Thursday, May 2, 2019 - 19:45

‘Maharshi’, the 25th film of Mahesh Babu, hits the screens this May 9. The film’s songs are out. Composed by Devi Sri Prasad and penned by lyricist Sree Mani, the album has six songs. Devi Sri Prasad had given catchy numbers for ‘1 Nenokkadine’, ‘Srimanthudu’ and ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ for Mahesh Babu earlier but this time he disappointed...big time.

Padara Padara

The theme song ‘Padara Padara’ is a simple yet powerful number which gives a lot of depth into the emotions of the common man. Sree Mani's lyrics are captivating and Shankar Mahadevan breathes life with his emotional singing. A montage number which Devi churns out with his heart and this stands out in the album.

Choti Choti Baatein

This song sounds familiar but has its own specialty to it. This happens only because of DSP's cool singing. The Tinglish lyrics are good and the guitar bit that comes in the middle sounds cool. The song has a peppy feel and will click superbly with the youth because of its uber cool feel attached to it.

Nuvve Samastham

The track Nuvve Samastham instantly gives you a, ‘been there done that’ kind of a feel. Devi makes this tune peppy but there is no freshness in it whatsoever.

Everest Anchuna

This song proves that DSP is not in form here. Right from the tune, lyrics, beat, and mood, there is nothing new this song possesses. The only solace is the killer looks of Mahesh which are shown in the teaser. The singing is also disappointing but the chorus makes some sense in this otherwise ordinary song.

Phir Shuru

This number is supposed to be an inspiring song which is said to give high but that is not the case as the song is dull and does not have that tinge which is expected in such inspirational numbers. Benny Dayal has crooned this number which DSP keeps it in rock feel mode and has some good lyrics though.

Paala Pitta

The album is rounded off by ‘Paala Pitta’ which is folk number. DSP himself has tuned such songs many a time. But here the added bonus is the singing and a peppy hook-up line which makes some sense

Bottom Line

Overall, the songs are just about okay and do not give you an instant high. “Choti Choti Baatein” and “Padara Padara” are really impressive while the others are ordinary. Now, the racy narration and correct placement of these songs will help the album. But otherwise, songs of ‘Maharshi’ are simply passable stuff.
