Actor Ranganath commits suicide

Senior actor Ranganath is no more. 66-year-old Ranganath today was found dead at home in Ashok Nagar in Hyderabad. Police have booked the case as suspicious death as he was found with a rope surrounding his neck. It was apparent suicide, say the police. Hyderabad police are investigating the case.

Born in 1949 in Madras, Ranganath began his career as a small artiste in ANR starrer Buddimanthudu in 1969. He got the chance to play lead role in Chandana in 1974 and soon became most-sought after hero for offbeat movies in the 70's. Some of his most memorable hits as hero include Panthulamma, Intinti Ramayanam, Zamindarugari Ammayi, Devatalara Deevinchandi, America Ammayi, Andame Anandam, Palle Seema, Rama Chiluka, Ee charitra Ye Siratho, Ee Chaduvulu Makoddu, etc.

In 80's he turned to negative and character roles. Khiadi, Adavi Donga, Antima Teerupu were some of his hits as character artiste in the 1980's. He also directed a movie titled Moguds Pellams recently. He was also well-known poet.
