Senior dancer Jyothi Lakshmi passes away

Senior actress and popular dancer Jyothi Lakshmi, who was a rage as a vamp in the 1970's and 80's, is no more. She passed away on Tuesday (August 9, 2016) at her residence in Chennai. She was suffering from illness. Jyothi Lakshmi entered into film industry in 1960’s as a child artiste but she got craze as a vamp (today's item bomb) in 70's.

Born in 1948, she had acted in more than 300 movies in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada languages.

Her debut film in Telugu was 'Peddakkayya'. In 1973 release Sobhan Babu starrer 'Ida Lokam', she performed for a song "Gudi Venaka Naa Saami..." and it catapulted her to stardom as a dancer. So popular she was that a song was written on her - ‘Jyothilakshmi Cheerakattindi’ and it became quite popular too. In most of NTR, Krishna, ANR, and Sobhan Babu's movies she was the regular actress performing for special songs. She was recently seen in 'Kuberulu'.
