Film piracy is a big market in India. Recently Telangana’s IT minister K T Rama Rao was given a presentation by representatives of Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) about the losses that are occurring in the Telugu film industry, which is to the tune of Rs 361 Crores. Post this the Government has set up an anti-piracy unit, the Telangana Intellectual Property Crime Unit (TIPCU).

It was Baahubali that inspired the Government to set up the TIPCU. The day Baahubali was released it was uploaded online. This was tracked by the TFCC and a group was arrested in this regard.

TIPCU will now be keeping an eye on online piracy activities. In a couple of months this taskforce will start its work in full force. Several representatives from cyber crime police, state IT ministry, internet service providers, the Telugu film industry, legal experts and financial experts will be a part of this team.
