Day 2: NTR Mahanayakudu further sinks

‘NTR Mahanayakudu’, the second part of NTR Biopic is heading towards epic disaster of all-time. The movie that collected Rs 1.25 Cr on the first day has added mere Rs 40 lakhs (share) on the second day. The total share for the two days from Telugu states stands at Rs 1.70 Cr (approximate).

Tollywood has witnessed many disaster flops but this result is more shocking as it is a biopic of great actor-politician late NT Rama Rao who stills commands admirers worldwide.

In many areas, the film has registered negative shares, which means the collections didn’t even cover the theater rentals for the day. In Nellore district, the film’s share for day two is paltry Rs 1.90 lakhs on day two.

Why is failing to fetch even decent numbers for a Balakrishna starrer should be analyzed by the trade pundits. There were zero expectations on this second part of its first part’s box-office failure but such low numbers have come as rude shock to the makers and the distributors. The situation of distributors, who had incurred huge losses on the first part, is now like moving out of the frying pan into the fire.

Directed by Krish, ‘NTR Mahanayakudu’ featured Nandamuri Balakrishna, Rana, Vidya Balan, Vennela Kishore, Sachin Khedekar and Kalyan Ram in key roles.
