Rajamouli is undecided about his next movie?

For more than a few months now, rumours about SS Rajamouli directing a mega budgeted adaptation of select episodes from the Great Indian Epic Mahabharatham have become intensified. Whether or not this is true, names as huge as these have been floated by the media: Aamir Khan, Superstar Rajinikanth, our own Mahesh Babu and NTR, and Complete Actor Mohanlal.
In a recent interview given by Rajamouli, the director said this: "So far, the only thing I have said is that I want to make a film on the epic. I myself don't know anything as to when this will materialize. I also added that when I will do it will depend on the technology available. Nobody can be sure about what the advancement in technology will be like a few years down the line. The media ignored the other portions of my statement and highlighted only the first part".
While this is conceded, one cannot be sure as to what is in Rajamouli's mind. He is not someone who makes grand statements for the sake of it. As for the availability of technology, a special camera was made at a cost of Rs. 10 Cr just for the sake of 'Baahubali 2'. What was not there a year ago became a reality when Rajamouli wanted it!
Recently, he said that he will do a film which won't need Kamal Kannan, the VFX Supervisor. As producer Shobu said immediately as a rejoinder, he has been saying it for many years! After a great movie like 'Baahubali' franchise, the director and his fans may not be willing to settle for anything less than a grand spectacle. Every character, budget, star cast, etc will be expected to be huge by the audience. And an epic like Mahabharatham offers all this on a platter. It's layered and emotional, two of the things the director loves to film.
As of now, we have to wait for 'Baahubali 2' to come and create history. The range of its success will determine the genre of his next movie, its budget and casting. If it becomes a Rs. 1000 Cr movie, expect production companies to queue up, requesting him to let them invest in his next movie. In that case, Rajamouli will be making India's costliest movie after 'Baahubali 2'!
To paraphrase Rajini, 'Idi Conclusion kadu.. Arambham'...
