Sankranthi 2018: Box-office Report

Thursday, January 18, 2018 - 09:00

The final report of Sankranthi films is out. Of the four films released this festival period, two have emerged as hits. Nandamuri Balakrishna’s mass drama ‘Jai Simha’ has got good amount in the first week. As of now, it seems it may end up as a Hit but the lifetime share would not cross Rs 30 Cr. Given the fact that the film was sold for low prices, it is going to be hit. The film collected big in the first six days.

On the other hand, Suriya’s ‘Gang’ that started on slow note has picked up well. It is now all set to become a hit. The film’s content, Suriya’s promotion and word-of-mouth have helped. The film is now drawing more collections than it did in the first weekend.

Meanwhile, the biggest flop in the recent times is Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Agnyaathavaasi’. The movie’s debacle sent shockwaves in the trade. By end of the first week, it has become clear that all the distributors would be losing 50 percent. The other small film that released during Sankranthi is Raj Tarun’s ‘Rangula Raatnam’, which was no-starter from the day one. It is a huge flop.

Final take: ‘Jai Simha’ and ‘Gang’ are hits but we have to wait and see how much they would collect by end of its run.
