US BO: Only 8 tickets for Shakalaka Shankar

Last weekend as many as ten movies hit the screens but the North American box-office witnessed the release of only two Telugu films. All focus was on Tharun Bhascker’s ‘Ee Nagariniki Emaindi’ and comedian turned hero Shakalaka Shankar’s ‘Shambo Shankar’. The second film was released in mere two locations and only eight persons came to watch this movie during the weekend. This is lowest ever amount for a Telugu movie at USA box-office.
 
To be fair, the film is not meant for A-Center and Overseas audiences. It is targeted for mass audiences. Knowing this, how did the distributor dare to release it in USA?
 
On the other hand, Tharun Bhascker’s ‘Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi’ posted average numbers. The weekend gross is at $354k. Lot of expectations and huge hype was surrounded on this film as it is second film from the director who gave surprise hit ‘Pelli Choopulu’ in his debut. It got good openings but didn’t see much jump. It may touch half-million mark soon but it is unlikely to beyond that figure as per early estimates.
