July 2018 Box-office: One hit, many flops

Wednesday, August 1, 2018 - 09:15

The month of July has ended on a disastrous note for Tollywood trade with 90 percent of movies failing to recover even 20 percent of the investment. Films like ‘Tej I Love You’, ‘Lover’, ‘Chinna Babu’ that were sold in the range of Rs 10 Cr to Rs 15 Cr have not even raked in Rs 3 Cr. Sai Dharam Tej’s ‘Tej I Love You’ ended its run with just share of Rs 3.5 Cr, while Raj Tarun’s ‘Lover’ has closed the theatrical run with paltry Rs 2 Cr share.

Gopichand’s ‘Pantham’ too bombed at the box-office but the film at least has posted decent figures. The distributors have recovered nearly 70 percent of their investment.

Other small films like Manchu Lakshmi’s ‘Wife of Ram’, ‘Parichayam’, ‘Aatagadhara Siva’ sank without a trace. Recently ‘Happy Wedding’ and ‘Saakshyam’ have hit the screens and both of them are struggling at the ticket window.

The only blockbuster in the month of July was ‘RX 100’,  that starred newcomers Karthikeya and Payal Rajput. The film is a smash hit. Sold for Rs 2.75 Cr, it raked in Rs 10.75 Cr.

Now, all eyes on August releases that seem most promising. ‘Chi La Sow’, ‘Goodachari’, ‘Brand Babu’, ‘Srinivasa Kalyanam’, ‘Vishwaroopam’, ‘Geetha Govindam’, ‘Narthanashala’ and ‘Shailaja Reddy Alludu’ are going to be released. All films have good expectations. Let’s hope these hit the gold.
