Case on Bhanupriya: more trouble for her

Senior actress Bhanupriya who was accused of harassing a 14-year-old domestic maid, will be in big trouble. Although Bhanupriya refuted all the accusations, experts say she will be in more trouble as labour laws will apply to her in this case. If police decide to take further action, she will have to face criminal case, they say. Hiring a 14-year-old girl as domestic help comes under child labour and it is a criminal offence.

A police complaint in Chennai was already registered against the actress by the girl’s mother. She alleged that the actress took her daughter to Chennai to work as maid in her house for the monthly salary of Rs 10,000 but she did not pay the salary once. She also alleged that the actress’ brother is harassing the girl.

Chennai police are now investigating the case. Bhanupriya’s celebrity status will not absolve her, say the police.
