Veteran actor and producer Mohan Babu was today sentenced to one year of imprisonment by Errum Manzil Court in Hyderabad in a cheque bounce case. He was later granted bail in the case.

Mohan Babu was convicted in the suit filed against him by director YVS Chowdhary. The case was filed in year 2010.

Mohan Babu had given a cheque of Rs 40 lakhs 50 thousand to Chowdhary as part of remuneration while he was making a film with his son Manchu Vishnu. The film titled ‘Saleem’ bombed at the box-office but the cheque was bounced. The court asked Mohan Babu to pay Rs 41,75,000 to YVS.

However, Mohan Babu said YVS Chowdhary misled the honorable court with false claims. He said that he will appeal in a higher court against his sentence. "I respect the court's judgment. I will appeal in the sessions court," he said. He further added that his production house fully paid the remuneration to YVS Chowdhary for the film ‘Saleem’ that was released in 2009.

“We gave him Rs 40 lakhs of advance payment for next film. As ‘Saleem’ flopped, we dropped off the idea of producing another film. Where is the question of giving remuneration to YVS when the film didn’t happen,” asked Mohan Babu.
