I am planning my career carefully: Sundeep Kishan

After scoring a decent success with a thriller ‘Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene’ recently, actor Sundeep Kishan is releasing a comedy movie named ‘Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL’. Having done concept-based movies in a row, he has acted in this commercial comedy movie genre. Ahead of the movie’s release (November 15), Sundeep Kishan spoke at length about his career, his choices, and the film.

How profitable was Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene?

As a producer, I made decent money with the film and all my distributors ended up in a safe zone. That is what matters to me. From now, I will select films that allow me to scope to perform. I will produce them.

What have you learned from your mistakes?

In a hurry to do the new-age cinema, I was trying to be too different and this is where I fell flat. I tried way too many things and did not give what the audience wanted from me. Now, I am planning my career very carefully and will not do the same errors. 

What made you sign ‘The Family Man’, the web series?

I was not part of the series in the first place. I forced myself into the show and wanted to do a negative role. But the directors had different plans and gave me a major role. I got superb reviews for my role and you will see me more in the third season.

What's special about Tenali Rama Krishna?

It is about a small-time lawyer who gets a big case and ends up into deep problems. The film is funny and will have a lot of tongue in cheek humor which is missing for a while in Telugu cinema. There are a lot of comedians in the film and the comedy part has worked out extremely well.

Will such slapstick comedy work nowadays?

Why not? Things have not changed at all. If the film is narrated with a good comedy, things will work. Director Nageswara Reddy is a king of such comedies and he has given the film a right touch and feel. The film has decent comedy and will not be over the top and will surely connect with its target audience.

Tell us about your upcoming films?

For the first time, I am doing a sports-based film on hockey. We have booked a stadium in Begumpet and will soon start prepping for the film. The film is a serious sports drama and I am very proud to be a part of it. The film will also be released in Tamil at the same time. After this film, I have not signed any project.
