My dad is not involving in selection of scripts: Naga Chaitanya

Naga Chaitanya starrer ‘Sailaja Reddy Alludu’ is all set to hit the theatres on the auspicious occasion of Vinayaka Chaviti. This is a mass role and doing it was not easy says Chaitanya. The actor talks about his films, wife and much more.

How did this combination happen?

I always wanted to work with Maruthi but didn't get a chance. I was in touch with him and told Maruthi that I want to do a role which would be an extension of my character in Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam. When this project was fixed by my dad, Maruthi designed a full-length mass role for me and things fell into place automatically.

Why are you still depending on your dad to select films for you?

Off late, my dad is not listening to any of my scripts. I only call my dad during the editing phase and take his suggestions. I feel that there is nothing wrong with taking help of such experienced person like my dad. One should always have somebody who will guide you in the right direction.

How difficult was it to portray a mass role?

I had a tough time doing it as Maruti has a very different style of showcasing his heroes. They are loud, energetic and vocal. To adjust to such sensibilities, it took time for me. When you look at my role from outside, it looks very entertaining as I keep cracking jokes at myself but to evoke all those emotions, it was very hard for me.

Any tensions with your wife regarding same day release?

Samantha was a bit upset when I told her that even my film was coming on the same date. But as she is an actress and knows how the industry works, she was okay with it.

How is married life treating you?

It will be a year this October and time has flown so quickly. I am in a very happy space and am loving every moment of it. We give space to each other and understand the other's priority. I have adjusted well with her family and she has become even closer to the Akkineni family now.

Why has Savyasachi been delayed?

Many say that the film was reshot and this caused a delay. There is nothing of that sort. There were some date issues as I was doing both the films simultaneously. We wrapped up SRA first and Savyasachi will release in November first week.

Do you think Sailaja Reddy Alludu will bring you luck?

As far as I know, the film will be a good hit as Maruthi has nicely included the family emotions, comedy, and love story in equal doses. It will be a perfect festive treat and I hope it takes my career on to another level. Apart from this, I have also pinned hopes on Savyasachi which is also turning out superbly.
