Producer's Rs 8 Cr gamble on Vikram

After 'Aparichitudu' in 2004, Vikram was a big name in Telugu as well. Although he never acted in a straight Telugu film, he had a huge following and craze in Tollywood market. To impress the audience, a number of Telugu films parodied his 'Aparichitudu' act. 'Shiva Putrudu' was another earlier hit.

On the back of this, films like Mani Ratnam's 'Villain' and 'Mallanna' were hyped up. They failed so badly. And by the end of the decade, Vikram completely lost it. There was no hype now. He has not made a comeback since then in Telugu at least.

Almost all of his recent films, with the exception of 'Inkokadu', have failed to make money in this decade. Despite this uninspiring track record, his upcoming cop-action drama 'Saamy' (aka 'Saamy 2') has been bought by Telugu producers for a whopping Rs 8 Cr. Yes, it's this huge!

The question is, will this gamble pay off? It's learned that the producers have pinned their hopes on director Hari (of the 'Singham' series fame) and heroine Keerthy Suresh, too. Devi Sri Prasad's music could also help. Let's hope Vikram will have a hit.
