Ram Charan: Vinaya Vidheya Rama is not a violent film

Tuesday, January 8, 2019 - 16:15

Ram Charan doesn't agree with the suggestion that 'Vinaya Vidheya Rama'(VVR), which releases on January 11, is a violent film. In this interview, the actor ponders over the kind of film that is 'VVR', why he likes to work with directors like Boyapati Srinu and more. Catch him talk also about the Rajamouli's RRR , getting along with NTR and Mahesh Babu, some headaches with 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy' and more.

Not violent at all

'VVR' is not a violent film. If the trailer makes you think so, it's because Boyapati has always preferred such brand of trailers. We released the 'Thassadiyya' song before the trailer for a reason. We want to ensure that 'VVR' is a family entertainer apt for this Sankranthi season. As for the title, I wanted to prefer a nice-sounding one like 'Jaya Janaki Nayaka'.

Both 'Vinaya' and 'Vidhwamsa'

I must say that my characterization is a combination of these both qualities. There is a dose of 'vinayam' and 'vidhwamsam' in all of us. Rama (Ram Charan) is quite relatable. Everyone in a family would like to have such a brother-in-law, brother, etc.

Not based on 'Gang Leader'

Boyapati has made it as a right balance. He worked on the script for a long time after he closed his previous film. People are saying that it may have a striking similarity with 'Gang Leader'. It's not true. Be it the situations or the screenplay, 'VVR' is completely different from 'GL'. It's true that I have always wanted to act in a film like 'GL'. But 'VVR' is not 'GL' at all.

Being a Rambo

It was Boyapati's dream for two years to see me in such an avatar. He had spoken about it to me much before the story was narrated. Since he was very particular about it, I had to transform into a Rambo by working out hard. I usually don't follow diet restrictions at home. I eat sweet almost every day. For this role, I worked hard to get into the right shape. The schedule shot in Azerbaijan will be enjoyable.

Some pressure after 'Rangasthalam'

Let me say that not every film can be a 'Rangasthalam'. That film happened just like that. Sukumar came over for a lunch, during which I asked him if he has got any stories. A couple of days later, he told me the story line. People will compare 'VVR' with my previous film but that's inevitable. 'VVR' is a different film in its own right. As an actor, I want to do all genres and work with directors who come with great clarity of vision and conviction. At the end of the day, a film has to be sensible. The genre just doesn't matter.

Shooting exprience and being kind to crew members

Everyone from Aryan Rajesh, Prashanth, Sneha and Vivek Oberoi garu has done a great job. Contrary to the impression given by the trailer, the story has no aspect of elections. One of my brothers in the film is a bureaucrat. As for giving gifts to crew members, I treat them like my staff. In the case of 'Sye Raa', I am moved that so many crew members have worked for 35 days in a faraway place, away from their family members. It's not easy at all.

Chiranjeevi's question

After listening to the 'Ko. Ni. De. La' punch line, Nanna garu joked that his permission should have been sought before using the surname.

I don't endorse talking about collections

After some disturbances arose over the collections of 'Rangasthalam' and 'Bharat Ane Nenu' last year, I took a decision on behalf of my fans. My stand is that my producers should reveal the collections. It's up to them. I have made my stand clear. The idea is to keep the competition healthy and pleasant. The talk over collections makes it unsavoury.

Gelling with NTR, Mahesh

Nanna garu (Chiranjeevi) used to gel with his contemporaries even when he was in Chennai. As for me, I prefer to get along well with friends, especially NTR and Mahesh Babu.

'Sye Raa' gave me some headaches

Like with all films, 'Sye Raa' too had some issues recently. But they have been sorted out. With a big film like this, issues with dates, etc are bound to be there. It's just a rumour that we are doing reshoots. For that matter, our budgetary resources don't permit reshoot. The budget is now Rs 200 Cr. I want to complete this project, seal the business deals and focus entirely on the RRR movie. The entire shoot will be over before March. The release will be in the second half of 2019. We have no issues with Amit Trivedi's music. I have heard that he is composing for a Prabhas movie as well.

On RRR movie

When Rajamouli garu offered me the story, my first reaction was one of silence. I didn't expect it. I hadn't been in touch with him much after 'Magadheera'. He got busy with 'Eega' and 'Baahubali'. Tarak was next to me when Rajamouli garu told about the project. We both felt very happy. Since I and Tarak are friends, it has been easy to work with him.

Film with Koratala Siva

It's not happening for me as I am busy with RRR movie. That's why he will be wielding the megaphone for Nanna garu's movie.
