Kick 2 - Movie Review

Ravi Teja starrer Kick 2 has come to theatres after a long delay. Produced by Kalyan Ram and directed by Surender Reddy, lots of hopes are pinned on this film. The prequel of this film Kick was a blockbuster. This sequel begins with the story of the Kalyan (Ravi Teja's character in Kick) settling in USA happily and his son Robin is now working as doctor.

Robin (Ravi Teja) comes to India to settle his land issue in Hyderabad. Robin is the son of Ravi Teja who featured in Kick. While Robin is busy settling issues regarding his property, he meets Chaitra (Rakul). She is a writer who narrates stories to a producer. They fall in love.

Far away in Bihar in a village people are suffering in the hands of Solomon Singh Thakur (Ravi Kishen). They believe that a god like person will put an end to their misery. One day one of the villagers sees Robin beating a rowdy. He thinks that Robin is the person who will save him and his villagers from Thakur’s atrocities. Rest of the film is about how the villagers take Robin to their village and save themselves from Thakur’s violence.

Performance wise Ravi Teja is best being his usual self. He performs his role in impeccable ease. He is all energetic and performs well. But the flip is that his is a poorly written role. If you compare with his role in Kick, the sequel doesn’t help his image much. Rakul on the other hand has a role in which she can perform and she does just that. 

The comedy in the film is predictable and Brahmanandam does evoke some laugh. Ravi Kishen is barbaric in his role. Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra’s role have been developed poorly. Despite this Sanjay Mishra gets noticed. Tanikella Bharani is good with touching dialogues in the pre-climax episode.

Technically Manoj Paramahamsa’s work does need a mention. He has shot the film richly. Another highlight of the movie is music - Thaman’s songs are good. Action episodes do not impress much..

Director Surender Reddy has given us big films like Racegurram and Kick, but in Kick 2 he fails miserably. The film has no good comedy or the right kind of action that would give audiences a kick. In the prequel we see a hero who robs rich people and helps the poor, just to get a kick. Here the hero helps the poor to get comfort, this doesn’t impress at all.

Surender Reddy has failed in narrating this poor script. Apart from a little bit comedy in the first half, two the film doesn’t have anything much. The script is full of potholes and illogical situations.

In one line, Kick 2 does not have the required kick nor it provide any comfort to the audiences as it is lengthy runtime.

Bottom-line: Where is the Kick?
