Priya Prakash: I am loving all this attention and hungama

Tuesday, January 22, 2019 - 22:30

Priya Prakash Varrier doesn’t need introduction. The young and beautiful actress from Kerala set the young hearts on fire with her naughty wink. Her expression in a song in the Malayalam film ‘Oru Adaar Love’ went viral last year on social media making her a star overnight. That Malayalam movie has been dubbed into Telugu as ‘Lover’s Day’ and it is set for Feb 14, 2019 release. She has also readied her second film titled ‘Sridevi Bungalow’ that ran into controversy as the title and theme of the movie reminds famous actress Sridevi’s death. Priya who is in Hyderabad to promote her Lover’s Day spoke to the media. Excerpts from the interview.

How are you handling the wink sensation tag?

Initially, I found it quite good and I cannot deny the fact that it has brought to the place where I am today and I thank all those who liked me. But I feel that I should be recognized as an actress first.

Does the winking scene have any importance in the film Lover’s Day (Oru Adar Love)?

That was a very casual scene in the film and has nothing to do in the film. It was a simple gesture and became viral all over.

Tell us about how your parents reacted to the whole overnight success?

It was chaotic and I did not understand what was going on actually. You won't believe me, my parents house arrested me for some days and there used to be a lot of reporters coming to my house daily. I used to come from my college and give interviews in my uniform. After seeing the crowds only, we understood what kind of sensation that video created.

Why did you take so much time to sign movies?

We just shot the video but as the video went viral but we had to slow down and shoot the film in a different note. That took a lot of time and now we are here with the release date.

What kind of offers did you get after the viral video?

I seriously lost count of the offers that I received. In Telugu too, there were many offers and I clearly remember, we let go of an offer from Allu Arjun for a film called ‘Naa Peru Surya’. I was very disappointed that I could not sign the film.

What do you have to say about the ‘Sridevi Bungalow’ controversy?

Frankly speaking, I have not received any notice from anyone in person. I cannot comment about the controversy and I feel it is free publicity for the film. I did sign the film it was a female oriented-film and I loved the role.

Is there a reference to Sridevi in the film?

If the teaser implies that there is a reference, then it is good only for the film. It is all to bring the audience to the theaters. Whether there is a reference or not, you have wait and watch the film.

Post the teaser of Sridevi Bungalow, how are you handling all the criticism?

Initially, I was very upset but got the hang of it later. Now, everyone is talking about me and as I wanted all of this for a long time to become famous all over, I am loving it and quite excited.

Future Projects?

As of now, I am busy with “Lover's Day” and “Sridevi Bungalow”. The results of these films will decide what I should do later.
