What's it about
Deepika (Eesha) is in love with Ananth (Adivi Sesh) and her brother loves Maya (Aditi Myakal). Deepika's rich father (Tanikella) doesn't want his daughter to get married to a sales manager like Ananth, so he locks her in a room. He arranges an alliance of Sri Chilipi (Vennela Kishore), who he thinks is rich though they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Sri Chilipi comes down to Hyderabad from Vizag to see Deepika in person. Deepika tricks her father and runs away from home and locks her maid in the room. Sri Chilipi believes this maid as Deepika but he gets confused why she is looking so old. The maid falls in love with Sri Chilipi. And comedy of errors leads to further confusion.

Analysis

Director Indraganti Mohan Krishna leaves a mark of his own whenever he picks up different subjects. Be it 'Grahanam' or 'Ashta Chemma' or 'Gentleman'. But his comedies ('Mayabazar' and 'Bandipotu') were not only rejected by the general moviegoers but also received thumbs down from the critics. His latest 'Ami Thumi' starring Avasarala, Adivi Sesh and Vennela Kishore is also a comedy movie. This is a comedy of errors!

To begin with the story is simple one. The story is loosely based on Richard Brinsley Sheridan's stage play, 'The Duenna'. It is like he weaved a plot based on just a handful of situations from this stage play. The director has tried to generate humor with the mistaken identity and farcical situations. Even though it begins on wrong note, the middle portions have created good laughs. Especially the lengthy comedy track between Vennela Kishore and the maid before the interval is hilarious. This is best scene in the film.

From the beginning to end, the movie runs without any twists or major happenings as far as the story is concerned. But thanks to Vennela Kishore, the humorous situations make decent watch. If not for Vennela Kishore and his comedy, the movie would have fallen flat.

As said, the film completely belongs to Vennela Kishore. His performance is a major highlight. Avasarala and Adivi Sesh are suited to their simple characters but they hardly have any roles. Eesha is okay and newcomer Aditi doesn't have beauty nor acting chops. Among other cast members, Tanikella shines. The dialogues are mostly in Telangana accent but the actors didn't get it right.

The film mostly happens in a house or a hotel (has stage play setup). Yet, P G Vinda has come up with good visuals. More than as a director, Indraganti has shown his talent as writer in this film. His dialogues are funny.

Bottom-line: Vennela Kishore steals the show in this simple comedy. Watch the film for his comedy. 'Ami Thumi' doesn't have much story line but does generate some laughs.
