Anando Brahma - Movie Review

What's it about?
A house is possessed. The ghosts (Tapsee, Raghu Karumanchi, Vijay Chander and a small kid) are waiting for their mother to come this house, which is owned by Ramu (Rajeev Kanakala). Ramu lost his parents when they went for Uttarakand trip. He puts the house for sale but he is not getting market price, as the word is that it has ghosts living in it. A bartender (Srinivas Reddy) gives him an idea - if he proves that the house doesn't have ghosts  he will get better price. The bartender himself steps into the house with his three friends to disprove the belief that it is possessed. The ghosts don't want the house to be sold and these four guys want to prove the house doesn't have ghosts. Who will win in the game between ghosts vs these four guys?

Analysis

At a time when people are tired of watching horror comedies as many of them are repeating the same stuff, 'Anando Brahma' comes as a relief. The film directed by Mahi V Raghav (of 'Paatashala' fame) has turned out to be quite fun watch. Second half is hilarious. 

The film also treads differently from the very beginning itself. In horror comedies, comedy gets generated when a ghost scares timid persons or comedians. The director has turned the tables as he has made comedians scaring the spirits. A house is possessed with ghosts and they are scaring everyone who comes to buy the property. Here we have four guys who have many personal issues to deal with themselves. When these four ghosts and four humans live together in same house like the inmates of 'Bigg Boss', what happens? This interesting premise is narrated in entertaining manner. 

If you excuse the middle portions of the story where it turns slow and a bit boring, "Anando Brahma' leaves you in splits in the later portion. Post interval, there is hardly any dull moment. There is an hilarious scene: Taghubothu Ramesh who doesn't care  about anyone once he consumes a bottle of whisky enters a bathroom to pee, there a ghost is waiting to scare him and another guy who came in the robes of ghost to shunt him out from this house. How Taghubothu Ramesh scares both of them should be brilliantly  hilarious. Shakalaka Shankar performing bits from 'Aparichitudu', 'Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari' and imitating Baba Ramdev and KA Paul is quite fun to watch. Vennela Kishore is at his usual best.

These three comedians along with Srinivas Reddy have made the film a fun watch. 

Tapsee has played a minor role. She has looked beautiful. Rajeev Kanakala is impressive. Prabhas Seenu, Raja Ravindra and Vijay Chander are okay. But the film completely belongs to the four comedians who have given their best. 

Since it is set in a house, the film doesn't have flashy technical values but the camera work and product design are effective. Background score is neat. The film seems a bit lengthy as it has wafer thin storyline and it needs to be trimmed. 

As writer and director Mahi V Raghav makes an impression with this horror-comedy. He has knack for comedy.

Bottom-line: 'Anando Brahma' largely works due to its hilarious moments in the second half. First half is regular stuff but it ends up as decent horror comedy as four comedians show their best in a 30 minutes episode in the post-interval sequences.
