Director Vamsy, considered as one of finest filmmakers of 80's cinema era, has made a sequel to his iconic hit 'Ladies Tailor' (1986). The original comedy had Rajendra Prasad as the hero, while this sequel, which is, titled 'Fashion Designer s/o Ladies Tailor' stars Sumanth Ashwin in the lead role. The original comedy movie was popular for its adult comedy theme, good comedy, and 'Jama Jacha' dialogues'. The movie had acquired cult status.

30 years later Vamsy has written a script based on original story by Madhura Sreedhar with the similar style of 'Ladies Tailor'.

'Fashion Designer' the movie begins with the story of Gopalam, son of Sundaram, of 'Ladies Tailor'. Gopalam (Sumanth Ashwin) like his father, is a ladies tailor but he wants to be called as fashion designer. An astrologer tells him that he has 'manmadha rekha' in his palms that enables him to score with women. To settle in life by marrying a girl who is rich, he first tries to woo Gedala Rani (Manasa). She too loves him. But again, he falls for the beauty of Ammulu (Manali Rathod), niece of Gavarraju, the village landlord. As he is in dilemma to choose over these two beauties, Mahalakshmi (Anisha) steps in his village. She has returned from USA to settle in the village. This fashion designer also impresses Mahalakshmi. Who will he settle with?

Those who have seen Vamsy's 1986 released 'Ladies Tailor' can easily spot that the sequel has followed similar story and screenplay. So, there are traces of vintage Vamsy mark in the movie. Set in the beautiful Konaseema and Godavari delta area, the movie definitely makes a promotional tourism video for this region. The cameraman Nagesh Bennel has captured the locations so beautifully. Also the songs are picturised well. Manisharma songs are also lilting.

Now comes the question. Is the film really that good as I am pointing out the positives? Well, the straight answer is that it is a lot better than Vamsy's recent projects. The visuals, the locations, the music are alluring but his dialogues, his comedy, and his screenplay have reeked of oldness. Today's generation would find them outdated.

On the other hand, Sumanth Ashwin doesn't fit in the role of Gopalam as there is no sync to his expressions and dialogues. Manali Rathod, Manasa and Anisha Ambrose impress by showing off their assets well. Debutant comedian Raghavendra also impresses.

Bottom-line: 'Fashion Designer', the sequel of Vamsy's 'Ladies Tailor' scores more on visuals and music. Though the comedy and narration is in old style, this movie is better among Vamsy's recent movies.
