Next Nuvve - Movie Review

What's it about?
Kiran (Aadhi) makes a TV serial with the borrowed money. He is asked to pay the money in a week's time. As he is struggling to repay, he comes to know that his father (Posani) left him a palace in Araku. To overcome the financial issues, Kiran turns it into a resort with the help of Sarath (Brahmaji) and Sarath’s sister (Rashmi). Like in all movies that deal with the haunted houses or palaces, this resort too seems to be haunted? Or is someone playing a trick?

What's hot?

"Next Nuvve" is remake of a Tamil horror-comedy 'Yaamirukka Bayamey'. In this flimsy story, Brahmaji's comedy has worked out so well. He is in terrific form. There is this scene, where he steps in bathroom and calls out the ghost to come out from the mirror by asking "boochada raa raa" which puts you in splits. Later in the second half, his sequence with RGV (played by Raghu Babu), a ghost buster, Brahmaji again steals the show. Rashmi Gautham despite her silly characterization and her catfights with heroine Vaibhavi has managed to shine. She is a seductress. Her best scene is at the interval bang.

First half of the movie is entertaining with jokes and some dialogues like "iching lekapotey itchgaurd itchipovacchu kada". Despite routine sequences, first half passes the muster. In the second half, there are two comedy sequences involving with Raghu Babu. A girl imitating Chandramukhi’s episode and saying ‘Thomu Thomu Ginnelu Thomu’ is funny too. Himaja in the crucial role in the second half of the movie has given convincing act.

Music is okay. Cinematography and production values are decent.

What's not?

One wonders why ETV Prabhakar, a noted actor on Telugu TV, chose a remake for his debut in direction instead of original story. To be precise, why did he pick up a story that has too many clichéd elements for his debut directorial vehicle? Unfortunately, the film doesn't offer any novelty in terms of jokes or suspense. Very recently, ‘Anando Brahmo’ has come with the similar setup. Since the story itself is weak, the narration should have been placed better.  There is not much difference between the first half and second half, as both have lacked enough material. The first half has jokes but the second half is totally unconvincing. Also, the flash back story of Avasarala and Himaja is unconvincing. The motive of Himaja’s role is unexplained. Second half shifts a different gear.

The cat fights between two heroines is regressive. Moreover, the director has resorted to too many double-meaning dialogues (“ame tempt chesina nuvvu attempt cheyyatledu”, “shape bagundani choostunna poori shape”,”Vangoni chuste …”). Weak story and logic-less plot are the drawback. 

Bottom-line: "Next Nuvve' is typical horror-comedy with beaten-to-death situations. Except for some cheap thrills, and some laughs thrown in by Brahmji, Raghubabu and Rashmi's glam show, the movie offers familiar setup. First hour is hilarious, rest is routine.
