Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam - Movie Review

Story

Siva (Chaitanya) falls in love instantly when he sees Brahmaramba (Rakul) at a wedding. She teases him but she says she doesn't like his advances. Siva moves to Vizag city and she goes to her village. After few days, Siva gets call from her saying she has joined a college in Vizag. She starts befriending him to forget loneliness in the city. For him it is love but for her only friendship. By the time she realises that she is in love with him, she is already engaged to another person and her father Aditya (Sampath) comes to know that Siva is actually son of his friend turned foe Krishna (Jagapathi Babu). What happens then? Why their fathers turned foes?

Analysis

After debuting with a film with re-birth concept (Soggade Chinni Nayana), director Kalyan Krishna has attempted the genre of romantic drama that has dose of family set up. The director has chosen an oft-repeated theme but he has tried to give his own twist and touch to it.

The first half of 'Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam' goes in most formulaic way. But the real conflict and the romantic scenes between Chaitanya and Rakul are good post-interval. Rakul has played a role of a girl who is innocent at the same time has fierce attitude. As Naga Chaitanya says she is mix of many characteristics like penkitanam, monditanam, amayakatvam, etc. Kalyan Krishna has given more thrust to her character and drove the story based on her character. She likes him, she chats with him daily and goes for a walk and takes all help from him but still wants to get married to her parent's choice. In the beginning, the hero accepts her whims but he gets frustrated after point. The real "matter" in the movie lies in this thread. Rest of the drama is quite cliched.

While director Kalyan Krishna has narrated the movie well post-interval, the screenplay in the first half is not at all impressive. It is stretched beyond a point. Though the movie has short runtime, it makes us feel lengthy due to lot of silly comedy. First half lacks coherence. It comes in the groove towards penultimate sequences.

Naga Chaitanya has not done such hyper active role before this movie and he has pulled it off quite well.Naga Chaitanya has come up with best act in 'break-up episode'. But the real scene stealer is Rakul Preet Singh. As Brahmarambha, an innocent girl coming from rural background, she has got author-backed role. This is the first time that she has played such role where she has to perform rather than being a glam doll. Rakul is notable in this character though sometimes she has gone overboard. Jagapathi Babu as Chaitanya's father and Sampath as Rakul's father have got roles with substance. The movie has scores of actors and comedians but only few like Vennela Kishore make an impression. Kausalya and Annapurna also make their presence felt.
 
Music director Devi Sri Prasad has not given any outstanding work but two songs - 'Takitajam' and 'Rarandoi' stand out. Vishweswara Rao's camera work also impresses. Editing is decent. Art work is okay. 

The screenplay by Satyanand is formulaic but the dialogues and direction by Kalyan Krishna is decent. The director has handled emotional scenes well. The sequences between Jagapathi Babu and Chaitanya, scenes between Kousalya and Rakul make an impression. The other best scene is the break-up episode.

Bottom-line: 'Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam' is a decent family drama with a regular story. Though the story and screenplay is quite clichéd, the director has made the final moments interesting. Rakul stands out in this quite routine drama.
