Remo - Movie Review

Story:
SK (Sivakarthikeyan) is an aspiring actor whose widowed mother doesn't have faith in his success.  Even as his dreams are not coming true, the self-confessed Rajinikanth addict falls in love with Dr. Kavya (Keerthy Suresh) at first sight.  After fawning over her cuteness from a distance for four days, SK has heartbreak when he is told she can't stand him anymore.

He makes himself over as a nurse to bag the lead role in KS Ravikumar's movie, only to fail in the audition as the love failure keeps disturbing him.  By a quirk of fate, Kavya befriends him (now a 'she', Remo - Regina Motwani) in a bus and that's how their journey as colleagues at the hospital starts.  

It's now up to Remo to double up as Cupid, stirring up a sense of romance in her by doing two things: generating aversion towards her fiance by demeaning his looks, and creating a romantic curiosity in her by talking about the joy of being loved and reciprocating it. In all those stories of impersonation, there comes that anti-climax moment when the girl is disgusted at the well-meaning hero's schemes. And then cometh victory after some emotional churning.

Analysis:
Siva Karthikeyan, the rising star of Kollywood, has huge fan following in Tamilnadu and he has won the hearts of mass audiences as well as children. So his movies seem to be more concentrate on antics. Make no mistakes. Two crucial factors helped 'Remo' become Kollywood's third biggest BO grosser of the year. Number one: Sivakarthikeyan's image. Number two: 'Remo' is stuffed with stock Kollywoodian elements, elements that instantly appeal to the predominantly youth audience there.

Siva Karthikeyan is not a familiar face here. A particular scene in the movie sees him break into mimicry.  For those of you who don't know that Siva started his humble journey as a mimicry entertainer, you will find the scene not so amusing. So this movie doesn't full work due to this constraints. 

Still, the first half entertains. It is only in the second half, the movie turns so predictable. 'Remo' banks heavily on the lead pair's antics and the loosely defined term entertainment. There is an unmistakable sense of deja vu, be it when this failed-in-love hero takes recourse to the support of his otherwise demotivating mom (Saranya is routine and at times goes overboard), or when there is a mildly emotional scene followed by the heroine's birthday. Thank heavens that the hero doesn't undergo sentimentality as she puts cake into his mouth!

Siva Karthikeyan looks endearing like a Nani and beautiful at times. In company with Keerthy Suresh, he makes us root for his success.  Their chemistry sizzles.  Keerthy, however, would do better to stop making those girl-woman expressions at times. Satish, Yogi Babu and Mottai Rajendran pass muster.

'Remo' gets lucky with the presence of technicians like PC Sreeram (Cinematography) and Anirudh Ravichander (Music). The visuals make a mark. Anirudh is known for his stylish BGM and he pulls it off.  

Bottom line:
'Remo' is a romantic comedy that more focuses on hero's antics and heroine's charm. The pairing makes the cut. Siva Karthikeyan emotes well. Don't expect LOL-type comedy. Predictable and a fluffy climax, still the grand visuals and fun first half make this okay watch.
