What’s it about!

Ram’s wayward behavior, aimless attitude pains his father. An incident changes Ram to become responsible. He starts a start-up with unique concept – surprise gift. How Ram makes his father feel proud is the rest of the drama.

Analysis

The father - son sentiment dramas focusing on an aimless son and middle-class father have come dime a dozen. “Vijetha” too falls in the same category. It doesn’t have anything new be it concept, the execution, or the narration. The director narrates it in typical old style with dash of sentiment sequences in the second half.

Parents sacrifice a lot for their kids. When kids succeed in life and do something for their parents, they feel proud. The director drives home the point through this sentiment drama. ‘Vijetha’ focuses more on Murali Sharma’s character than Kalyaan Dhev’s and it also ends the former.

The first half of the movie is mostly boring as it focusses on dull and dreary sequences of hero trying to impress the heroine. The romantic thread and Malavika’s character is dull. However, some scenes in the second half have worked out well. The ‘Gift-A-Surprise’ concept is used well in the narrative in the later portions. But the sequence of kidnapping a rich guy (Adarsh Balakrishna) to make him realize family values is silly.

Kalyaan Dhev, megastar Chiranjeevi’s younger son-in-law who makes debut here has looks but his acting skills are bare minimum. Overall, he looks confident though. It is Murali Sharma who holds the movie with his restrained and matured performance. As said, it is more about Murali Sharma the father than the son. Malavika Nair is wasted. There are plenty of actors and all of them are just okay.

Music by Harshavardhan is decent. Some songs are good. Senthil’s cinematography is neat. Writer and director Rakesh Sashii has just shown that he weaves formulaic ideas.

Bottom-line: “Vijetha’, the launch pad of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s son-in-law Kalyaan Dhev, is formulaic father-son sentiment drama that is just about okay, nothing new. Cliched and predictable. Old-style movie with some family sentiments.
